Albany youth who will be in 6th through 12th grade this fall are invited to a workshop to make a wood and cloth marionette from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Monday, August 15, 2011 at the Albany Public Library, 2450 14th Avenue SE.
The workshop is free and all materials are furnished. Registration is required, and is limited to ten. To register, call Doris Hicks, Young Adult Services Librarian, at 541-791-0015 starting at 9:00 a.m. the day of the workshop. No registrations will be accepted before that time.
Relatedly, students going into grades 6 through 12 this fall are invited to sign up to put on a show using stringed puppets at the Albany Downtown Carnegie Library, 302 Ferry St. SW.
Rehearsals will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2011, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m., and Monday, August 22 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Performances will be at 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 23. Puppeteers must attend both rehearsals and both performances.
No previous theater or puppetry experience is required, and all marionettes and materials are furnished. To register, youth or parents may pick up a form at either Albany Public Library Young Adult area. Membership in the troupe is limited to the first ten students to turn in a completed form before August 12.
