U.S. President Barack Obama intends to proceed with the nomination of Marine General John Allen to be Supreme Commander of NATO.
White House spokesman Jay Carney says he hopes the Senate will consider General Allen’s nomination in a timely manner.
The nomination had been put on hold while the Pentagon investigated the general’s email exchanges with a Florida woman linked to a sex scandal that led David Petraeus to resign as CIA director. The Defense Department said Tuesday the investigation determined the email exchanges did not amount to conduct unbecoming an officer.
Allen is commander of all coalition forces in Afghanistan and is due to leave his current post February 10.
