Cougar Sighting In Southwest Portland’s Hayhurst Neighborhood‏

This morning, at 8:54 a.m., Central Precinct officers responded to the area of Pendleton Park, located at 6030 Southwest 55th Drive, on the report of a cougar in the neighborhood.

The caller reported seeing a large cougar walking through Pendleton Park at about 8:45 a.m.

Officers immediately called Hayhurst School, which is adjacent to Pendleton Park, to have staff initiate a precautionary lockdown to keep children safe.

Several officers searched the area and spoke to some neighbors, one of which told police that the cougar had been in the area the past few days.

Officers did not locate the cougar and after approximately 45 minutes released the school from lockdown.
